Is nonconformity and freethinking a mental illness? According to the newest addition of the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), it certainly is. The manual identifies a new mental illness called "oppositional defiant disorder" or ODD. Defined as an "ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behavior," symptoms include questioning authority, negativity, defiance, argumentativeness, and being easily annoyed.

It's obviously just another attempt at making you conform by instilling the insecurity that you have a "disorder", in other wrds making you afraid of what the "others" will see you like, appealing to the evolutionary fear of getting kicked out of the tribe which triggers fear of death.

Remember the old saw. Generally, don't attribute to malice what you can attribute to stupidity.

Somebody needs to take a hurl up the side of these guys heads, maybe that'll knock some sense into them. but to be true i don't believe this is an act of stupidity and i'm not really surprised it has come to pass. Not with the way the society has been heading in recent years.
