So clearly the European Union is entitled to 27 times more carbon emissions than the United States because they are 27 countries and the United States is just one. *nods*
Jokes aside, if you can't understand antiderivatives and basic calculus then you are probably stupid. Even if one accepts the premise that the United States is equally entitled to pollute the environment as China (which I do not), China can keep up its current rate of carbon emissions for decades before their total contribution to climate change equals the American. After all, atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions are associated with total emissions, not the rate of emission.
I see that China's carbon dioxide emissions have not significantly risen since 2013. I see that this plateau in Chinese emissions come not in a time of crisis, but in a time when China is recovering well from the Great Recession, as they are continuing to pull million of people from poverty and into the global middle class, as their transportation grows increasingly mechanised and energy-intensive, and as their international trade is continuing to surge. I can do the projections and project the future, and the future thus projected doesn't include continued exponential growth of Chinese emissions.
So the best alternative to "wait until China becomes rich and kills us all" is "keep the Chinese from enjoying a high standard of living"? What, exactly, do you think is the entire point of things like alternate energy? Sure, it's a relatively minor fraction of Chinese energy consumption now, but you're the one who was going on about exponential growth. Unlike China's greenhouse gas emissions, China's photovoltaic capacity is actually growing at a meaningful rate.
Just like London in 1900. Or Chicago in 1920. Countries that became rich and powerful through a very pollution-intensive development process should not be pointing fingers at other countries that seek to do the same.
I do not accept the "poor people should stay poor" solution that some people propose to the issue of climate change. Of course climate change is a large issue, and of course it needs to be dealt with, but I will certainly oppose any attempt to do it at the cost of human development. I find rising standards of living to be a good thing, and like any other good thing I find it perfectly acceptable that we are paying a cost to obtain it.
Nice, assuming my nationality. I'll sit here waiting for you to post evidence of my Chinese nationality before I answer for China's crimes.
