Hello Gentlemen, I have been thinking about this for quite some time now, and I have become increasingly curious about the history of Atwar. While I catch snippets from old forum posts, and renegade conversations; there is so much about the history of this game we all play that I am simply unaware of. The purpose of this thread is simply to invite old time players, to talk of the "glory days" share links to old threads, or even write something about the progression of the game. If anyone is interested in writing clan histories, player histories, etc know that you will have at least one avid reader. I'll list a couple questions here i'm interested in to get the idea going, feel free to answer these questions or just talk about Atwar in general )What was Atwar like in the beginning? Was there this divide between Scenario/RP/and "competitive" players? )How was EU+ found to be the most balanced map? UK/Germ or UKR/Turk standard duels? )I have heard things like Russia Central being militia back in the day, when was this changed and have their been any other significant balance changes? )Clans, the rise of SM, why did Bonk create it ,how have they managed to be so strong for so long while other clans have fallen apart. )Dalmati,Ily, just old dead clan in general that were OP, what happened to them and what was it like CWing back in their times? )Dueling, how had the standards for duels changed, as well as dueling ethics? )OP players, I know of Tophats, Chess, but what other names are old legends? What kind of strategies and picks did they like to play? )progression and balance of strategies, I have heard that Tophats helped with balancing, then Lao did, any other big balance changes? )personal player histories? Much like what Pavie wrote if anyone wants to write about how they found Atwar, what clans they joined, who taught them, what games they like to play etc. Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to post here, Cheers, Prometheus.

1st Nazi Mods banned me for advertising my forum topic on atwar and you can advertise? I pay for premium for being banned and treated injustly? 2nd Atwar is a great game but if you continue with this shitty servers ( in a world game I gotta disconnected 3 times at 30 seconds and all my movements weren't saved you will lose many players. 3rd Old Legends= How about Mauzer Panteri? 4th Player histories= Shitty history: Fap vs Martell war, a lot of enemies and a lot of trolling <3

I think it was Cronus's UN games that started movement towards RP back in 2012. That was ridiculously popular back then, always a UN game up. It popularized the idea "rogue'ing" where you couldn't attack any country without UN's permission, and UN could pretty much slaughter anyone... was a while ago (back when RA gave like +2 attack on tanks XD) It'd always be like rank 8 UNs (which was considered high rank) and rank 6s lol.. still rank 6s back then felt different than they are now, lot more of them talked/were cooperative With UN came scenarios, like basic WW2 stuff, and then when map makers saw which stuff was popular and created spinoffs. Tophats was good One of my favorite memories tho though was getting Learster'd. I was playing world map, was USA, and had conquered all of the americas pretty much. I talked with china, and we were gonna pretty much gangbang europe XD. Europe was all owned by learster, a high rank. So I start sending ships with bomber stacks. Slight skirmishing in spain/edge of france. Then suddenly turn before reinf EVERY single one of my cities (even non cap ones) gets attacked by marines, lol and ofc no troops. Next turn after that perfect numbers hit every one of my back caps and practically in 2 turns I get destroyed. Soon same shit happens to china haha. learster was old day MoS pro scary as hell, after i talked w him and he'd been infiltrating everywhere with marines 20 turns before i even started attacking him

yeah UN at first was ok and playable but later people started to abuse with the UNs and games started failing .. it was as bad as todays RP just difference is todays RP you pick countries like you do on a ffa world map and UN was preset with hundreds of units and cities ... i think it was even more cancerous .. WW2's were a lot more popular and The Great War was my favourite scenario .. a lot better than todays autist ww1 imo Strategies were a lot more usable and durable back then .. you would see strategies like RA and Blitz used a lot in duels and games , and now theyre deemed useless. MoS was widely used aswell even by high ranks and im not sure why , however GC was considered a somewhat weak strategy. Cant really talk about clans or the legendary players because i wasnt involved with cws and dueling at that time.. The game was much more simple back then i think but thats only my opinion

>Personal History. I found afterwind on kongregate while looking for a map based strategy game that was not risk. I registered on afterwind a very long time ago (2011?), played half a dozen game and then quit because I found the game way too complex and daunting. I quit for a year then came back. There I met with Sun Tzu and he took me in. I was then in a clan with Sun Tzu, Dinoscout, Havok, Heat Check called shadow shadows. We were the subclan/training clan. of Shadow Aces. Sun then went with ferrluchi and created Cosa Nostra and we all transferred there. I then went rogue and just quit the game for more than a year before coming back. I went solo for a long time before joining up with hdrakon for about half a year. Then I left mystic and hdrakon and went off with my own account and joined epic clan.

Lol Cpt Magic and Cronus UN, used to play that as r5 on my old acc (which was r5) and then occasionally troll in it as for clans there's a lot of history that isn't mentioned so far, like the srb-dalmati rivalry. some good clans like biteme, thunderball's clan, syndi (and the sm-syndi rivalry back when they stacked aw's most op players that werent in sm... tophats, acqui, plato, time, eagles, many more, and even a young lao, clovis, and waffel), im sure there are more names but am back home now tired and wanna sleep.

Personally I found that whole world games were already a strange thing, mostly by the fact that you required premium to host those. When hosted it would attract a lot of strong players though, either failing or becoming an epic success depending on the date. When admins allowed people to make them even without premium they became more common but the skill level felt hard. I guess nowadays much of the 'pros' players doesn't have time to sit for 3 hours and half. Oh, also duels were for SP instead of ELO. That's why I didn't felt so hard after losing to tophat so many times, and why many players didn't cared much about them. Much before that there wasn't even duel games implemented so you'd only send duel in-game to someone that pisses you off.

Well I wasn't there in the very beginning but I wondered the same thing a long time ago and did digging back when some of these guys where still around, apparently aw has always had a large Turkish population and they even forced the admins to make english the official language. Other then a few bad groups everyone was apparently very friendly fumbling around learning together. There was no such thing as rp before un in 2013. Most people played normal maps as there was no map editor and you could only build scenarios based of the world map so they where plain. As for sm history just know bonker was a dumb kid back then and was not serious in building a clan back then it just so happened he was very likable and found friends such as vdog who could build a competitive clan. As a whole what made sm diferent was chemistry, people did not pretend to like one another they just generally did, and every one was very intelligent among us. So we grew in skills as quickly as we did in friendship, but as interests died down just like anyone else thing eventually fall apart. As for playing against old clans I came right at the end of the golden age and even had the pleasure of facing a few of them in there final breaths, what I noticed was a lack of seriousness back then, people came to have fun and compete second and trolling and trash talking was humorous and playful not vengeful like now a days. They had great skill because they where among friends not clan hopping mercanaries looking for medals like now Dueling is a new thing and 1v1s where rather uncommon before 2014. Note that the elo system is new and was not always in place for clans or players. Getting Learster'd as a rank 5 in a world map was awe inspiring, a Mos legend. He's just one example of the many legends but I can't seem to recall In great detail many right now. Balancing is very different these days not so much strategy change but sp wise, it took me 5 years to get to rank 10 and it now only takes a few months if people grind hard. Well I answered from my knowledge of what I remember. It was a much more pleasant time and I miss it a lot iv always hoped aw would find that atmosphere again, but hate consumes this game now and it's never leaving. If you got any more questions or want me to go into greater detail just ask man.

Funny guy, let me remind you SM had 2 trophies before either your or Vdog joined, so 'not serious in building a clan' is a bit misplaced history....you forget people like Sserjj, Aladin, Fruit and Devil that helped. You are right though, most of the success is born out of genuine friendship and acceptance of flaws / appreciation of strenghts in individuals. Also constantly refreshing members helps against stagnation.

What was Atwar like in the beginning? Was there this divide between Scenario/RP/and "competitive" players? In the beginning scenarios and RP didn't exist as only the world map was available, when scenarios did become available there was only one map (world) to use for scenarios so they were much the same. Some of the earliest popular scenarios were 'Che's WW2 - http://atwar-game.com/maps/?show_map_details=1&scenario_id=60 (still the 4th most played scenario ever) and Knighttemplar's 'Colonial Empires' After this the earliest game shift towards RP style was UN games . Then came custom maps that gave a whole new set of maps and genres How was EU+ found to be the most balanced map? UK/Germ or UKR/Turk standard duels? If you take the context of only having the world map, then EU and EU+ being the only available presets to non premiums you understand why they became popular for competitive style games They offer (in context) the most diversity in geography, strat use and this coupled with everyone having to play them. With regards to the Turk Ukraine, turkey really is the only viable option vs a competent Ukraine I have heard things like Russia Central being militia back in the day, when was this changed and have their been any other significant balance changes? Yes Russia did have militia, this was changed as it was too easy for Ukraine to leverage its expansion and dominate, Cities like Paris have changed (used to be 6) and Stockholm (also had 6) changed early on. Cities were added to france and spain, in fact many city additions originally came from the player base, you can find them in old forum posts like this one - http://atwar-game.com/forum/topic.php?topic_id=2607 Clans, the rise of SM, why did Bonk create it ,how have they managed to be so strong for so long while other clans have fallen apart. Stability, refresh, stability, refresh - don't stagnate, again do some forum searching and you will find the answer to why clans have come / gone / re risen Dalmati,Ily, just old dead clan in general that were OP, what happened to them and what was it like CWing back in their times? This is another one that needs context, back in the day you would play VERY limited clanwars over a 3 month period with only the first 10 counting, it stands to reason then that people were more selective with their clanwars. Dalmati were great, but the knowledge and playstyle has changed a lot, so much so that a cw now would not resemble what is played now. then it was more about move prioritisation over expansion and attrition. Here is a video that might interest you, even if just for the visuals (also notice fruits first move every time - shows the emphasis on move priority) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TTnrP5cFpo Dueling, how had the standards for duels changed, as well as dueling ethics? Duels were at first only really initiated during the game, think Bleucher2 style. For me the ethics have changed for the better and the duel scene is much more structured, on the other hand it is also watered down a lot due to the change in game mechanics to an attrition/rush based style. At first duels were like the wild wild west, I remember my first duel I thought the guy was trying to ally so accepted and lost HAHA OP players, I know of Tophats, Chess, but what other names are old legends? What kind of strategies and picks did they like to play? So many good players I can recall, this is very much dependent on when you joined as to who you remember most, but Barrymore, Vril, Arbitrator, Nateballer, devil, Learster, Avatar to name a few, also comedy characters like Lild (somewhere under a flipped bed) and Gardevoir. Strategy wise was much more diverse, Desu tells me about Vagineer playing IF world, who the fuck would do that now…. progression and balance of strategies, I have heard that Tophats helped with balancing, then Lao did, any other big balance changes? Too many to recall, you will learn the more you play that things go full circle, with strats getting popularised then nerfed, click repeat, in memory IF DS GC PD SM NC Blitz Impi GW have all been popularised (in EU+ terms) at different points in my time playing - this is a good thing though as it shows that the strategies are varied enough to keep people creating new stuff. Again a forum search will give countless examples of things being called to be nerfed due to popularity - eventually somebody finds a way to beat the new 'thing' and new techniques are created Prom if you need some help let me know
