Goblin, since 1978 I've been following world-championships and do you really think that the best teams have won the WCs?

• 1978: Argentina reaches the final after buying out Peru for the 6x0 score (they needed to win with a 4 goal difference to eliminate Brasil and reach the final) and won in the final against a Holland that was the superior team. Not saying Argentina after all didn't deserve it, but Holland was "the best team".
  
• 1982: Brasil has a dream team (Zico, Socrates, Falcao, Junior, Leandro, etc.) and looses against an Italy that had nothing but Dino Zoff (excellent goalie) and a Paolo Rossi that scored 3 goals against Brasil (after that game he didn't make anything more out of his career). Italy in the end deserved it, but on the paper Brasil was stronger.
  
• 1986: Argentina wins "just" because it had a player called Diego Armando Maradona (a genius that decided the WC by himself).
  
• 1990: Germany wins with a penalty goal against Argentina. Deserved? Dunno!
  
• 1994: Brasil wins in penalty kicks against Italy. Deserved? Dunno!
  
• 1998: France is the superior team of the WC and wins it. Deserved? Yes!
  
• 2002: Brasil is WC against Germany. They win 2:0. Does this score reflect the "real" game? No! It was very tight and not sure if Brasil had the best team.
  
• 2006: Italy wins final against France. Was Italy better than France? NO! France had the best team on paper.
  
• 2010: Spain was definitely not the best team, according to betters and "football experts"... but in the end they were the absolute best team! (The Euro 2012 proved it!)
  
• 2014: Is Brasil the best team? Ofc. dunno!!! According to Goldman&Sachs, Brasil has a 48,5% chance of winning the WC. Second is Argentina with 14,1% and third is Germany with 11,4%.

Does the best team win? Usually yes, but very often not.
Like Gary Lineker once said: "Football is a simple game: 22 men run after a ball for 90 minutes and, in the end, the Germans always win." Somehow expressing the frustration of the English Football vis-à-vis the German overpower. This is tru not only for Germany, but in general for those teams that manage to compensate their relative lack of skills with a "team-geist" and the struggling nature of their game.
